Day 2 Wednesday, April 30, 2008 Oklahoma

I'm finding I'll have to post in different sections if I want the pictures and the commentary to make sense here. Isn't technology wonderful.......

We made a wrong turn somewhere in Missouri, and it took us about a half an hour longer to get into Oklahoma than we'd planned. We stopped at a convenience store, and I couldn't help taking a few shots. It was an interesting combination of stuff decorating the front of the store.

The same thing was on each side of the doors--a cowboy boot planter filled with geraniums (I think), and a banana tree. I have no idea how they keep those banana trees alive in Oklahoma.

And then there's the requisite totem pole. Oklahoma's slogan is "Native America" after all.
Fun stuff.

I'll have to post the rest of today's pics in the morning. This internet connection is moving like dial-up. 'Talk' to you tomorrow.......

Day 2 Wednesday, April 30, 2008 Missouri

We got a fairly early start today. I thought about blogging about things throughout the day, but that would have meant that I was looking at the computer instead of the scenery. Not a good idea. So, I'll be posting less detail, but more picutures.

We had to travel north about 45 miles from Arkansas to Missouri. In the little town of Noel, MO, there
was a great river that ran around a 45 degree bend. And just past the bend was a rock bluff that was at least 70 feet high. And the road runs between the bluff and the river. At one spot, the rock of the bluff overhangs half of the road. We got some shots of the overhang.

And here are some shots of the bluff itself. It was lovely, with the vines and wild flowers growing on it.

And the river directly across from the bluff. That was some of the greenest river water I've ever seen.

Day 1 Tuesday April 29

Well, we got a later start than we wanted, but there was a lot of stuff to pack. And Dean was on his work phone most of the day. We planned to get as far as Fayetteville, AR.

We apparently picked a good time to start the trip, though. Usually, traffic on I-40 is usually moderate to heavy, with the number of trucks greatly increasing as it nears evening. The was very little traffic today, though. We made great time.

We'll start Wednesday by running across to Afton, OK, near the north east corner of the state. We'll pick up old US Route 66 there, and follow it along. Hopefully, there'll be some neat pictures.

More tomorrow!
